Darrell
At 19 years of age, Darrell thought he had his life figured
out. He had earned a full scholarship to play football at the
University of Massachusetts and was living a life many young men
only dream of.
But he was unfulfilled and unhappy. He felt a deep longing
for something more.
Darrell had first heard the Gospel at the
age of 8, but he
didn’t have anyone in his life to help provide
him with a
clearer understanding of what he had heard. He
grew up with a
difficult home life, raised by a single mother
while his father
was in prison.
Years of living for his own selfish desires eventually
caught up with him during his first year at UMass. He knew his
life needed to change. Remembering what he had heard from a
youth pastor he knew in high school, Darrell’s heart was drawn
to the Lord and he began to read the Bible. Soon thereafter,
Darrell accepted Christ as his Savior, and his heart and life
were changed!
Because of his new relationship with the Lord, Darrell made
another big change. Although his mother and friends didn’t
understand his decision, he left UMass - and his football
scholarship - and enrolled in the Word of Life Bible Institute
in Schroon Lake.
“I just really wanted to change my life for the better and
to do what I was truly passionate about,” he says.
At the Bible Institute, Darrell is receiving clear Biblical
teaching and practical ministry experience as he follows his new
call to the pastorate. The training he is receiving at the Bible
Institute is preparing him for what the Lord has in store for
his life.
Darrell wouldn’t have been able to come to Word of Life
without the support of friends like you. Thanks to your gifts,
he received a scholarship to attend the Bible Institute. And
just think - countless other lives will be impacted by Darrell
because your support allowed him to be trained and equipped for
a lifetime of ministry.
“I really appreciate the scholarship,” says Darrell
gratefully. “It will allow me to do the things I love. Thank
you!”
