What’s your name, and can you tell us about your family?
My name is Chris Tompkins, and I’m married to my wonderful wife, Caroline. We’ve been married for nearly five years, and we initially met at the Bible Institute.
Tell us about your salvation experience.
I came to know the Lord at my Great Grandfather’s funeral. The Gospel was presented, and that day, I knew I was a sinner, and the only way to heaven was by trusting in Jesus’ death and resurrection as a payment for my sins.
Tell us about your role as a team member of Word of Life Bible Institute.
I serve as the Business Manager for the Bible Institute. I oversee the financial and budgeting operations of the Institute.
What is your favorite memory of WOLBI when you were a student or something recently as you served with our students?
It’s tough to pick just one. Of course, my favorite memory was meeting my wife! I also fondly remember the relationships I was able to develop with my roommates. The most memorable moment was sharing my faith with a stranger and leading them to Christ for the first time in my life.
What is your life verse, and why?
2 Corinthians 4:7-10 has always hit home. “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” These verses never fail to remind me of all the Lord has done. Regardless of my situation, the Lord loves me, has saved me, and has called me to glorify Him.
Why do you love serving students?
Life change. The Lord changes every student’s life through His Word. It’s an absolute privilege to see that happen and to celebrate the growth of students.
If you could speak to a younger you today – what would you say?
The Lord knows what He has planned for you. Don’t doubt that. Pray!
