Woman on Huskies sports team

Interview with Allison Reda

Allison Reda, a member of the Lady Huskies basketball team, was just named as a member of the HVIAC 2019–2020 All-Conference Team. Check out this interview where she talks a little bit about faith, the Huskies family, and more.

What is your name, where are you from, and what sport do you play?

My name is Allison Reda, I am from Sparkill New York, and I play volleyball and basketball.

Tell us a little bit about your salvation experience.

I was fortunate enough to grow up in a Christian home, and I got saved at a young age. However, I didn’t know what it looked like to have a personal relationship with God until high school, which is when I really started trying to live for the Lord. In that, He soon showed me living for Him wasn’t something I could do in my own strength– and He’s humbled me in that aspect of just knowing I am helpless without Him. As I grow closer to Him and learn more about Him every day, I realize more and more how much I need Him.

How did you come to Word of Life Bible Institute?

My mom used to work Camp Crew, and she saw the importance of setting time apart to grow spiritually. She sent my two older siblings to the BI, got me to go, and will send my youngest sister to the Bible Institute as well. I am so glad she encouraged me to come here, because I have been able to grow so much closer to God and have found a beautiful community.

What part of being a WOLBI Husky makes you the most excited?

Honestly, the community is what makes me the most excited to be a WOLBI Husky! My team was so welcoming and you really become like a family through the season. In addition, the fan community is so encouraging! They get so hyped at each home game and their presence really contributes to each win.

You were just named to the HVIAC all-conference team roster. How are you feeling about this accomplishment?

I was so honored to be named an HVIAC all-conference player. It makes me so grateful for each and every one of the Lady Huskies. They work so hard and have pushed me to be the best I can be, along with the coaches. They really motivated me, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

In what ways do you believe sports can be utilized to share the gospel?

Sports create such an amazing platform to share the gospel. It gives you the opportunity to share the love of God by having good sportsmanship, loving your teammates in their faults, giving 100% for God, and playing in one accord with the goal of glorifying God.  After building a relationship and gaining respect from the other team, we are able to share the faithful testimony of Christ.

What is your life verse and why?

Isaiah 41:10 is my life verse. Living a life for Christ isn’t always easy; we are called to take up our cross and suffer as Christ did in this life. But my hope is that I don’t have to suffer alone. Christ stands with me through the fire and gives me strength as He takes hold of me with His righteous right hand. In this, I know that His help, strength, and righteousness, victory becomes my own. So in whatever battle I face, I can have confidence that I will come out with a win.

If you could speak to a younger you today – what would you say?

If I could speak to a younger me, I would tell myself to rest in God’s faithfulness. His Word says that He will do good for us, we just have to trust in His plan and His purposes!

  1. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
What a beautiful testimony! Only God can take a walk on who had to borrow basketball sneakers and bless her obedience to attend WOLBI through this amazing honor! Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
