TECHNOLOGY FOR ACADEMICS

DIGITAL ACADEMIC TOOLS

Logos Bible Study Software: For Study, Digital Note-taking, and Digital Textbooks.

Logos Bible Software is a leading bible study library software. It specializes in the digital library management for Bibles and biblical/theological books. We’ve contracted with Logos to include most of our textbooks.

Every student at our New York and Florida teaching sites receives a customized Logos Bible Study Software package which includes most of their required textbooks.

Students will receive training in the use of Logos Bible Software before classes begin.

Students download class notes from the campus intranet and complete these directly on their computers.

Notes are delivered in Microsoft Office Word format optimized for use with Logos. Once the notes for each course have been completed by the student, they can be imported into Logos. This means that as they use Logos in the future for Bible study, their Bible Institute notes including the content provided to them and the notes which they type in themselves are a fully searchable resource that is electronically linked with their textbooks and other resources within their Logos package.

Microsoft Office 365: For email, writing papers, backing up assignments using OneDrive.

Once a student has their wordoflife.edu email account, they can log in to office.com, login and use the Office 365 tools. They can also download and install the tools onto their computer.

Canvas LMS: For Online Syllabus, course notes, course resources, assignment tracking, testing, and Campus schedules and communications.

Once a student has their wordoflife.edu email account, they can log in to Canvas and receive their course content and schedules. They can also use the Canvas app on their mobile device to lookup schedules and receive notifications.

Lockdown Browser: For secure test taking.  A student will use a special link published on Canvas to download and install the Lockdown Browser on to their computer.

COMPUTER SERVICE

The IT team will assist students with installing the software Word of Life provides. This service is provide free of charge. Beyond this, any kind of service or repair is subject to standard fees which are published in the IT Service Center on Campus.

In the event that a student experiences a computer breakdown or in cases where a student’s computer does not meet the required specifications, it will be possible to rent a loaner computer from the school for a limited time per day charges apply.

The IT Service team can provide limited repair services for broken devices, but do not perform deep repairs. We do not perform warranty service for any manufacturer.

TABLET OPTIONS

Logos and Microsoft offers free apps for the iPad, iPhone, Android, and Kindle Fire. They have limited functionality and cannot do everything that the Logos software can do on a Windows or Mac computer. Most importantly, you cannot integrate your class notes the way you can on the computer.

The Lockdown Browser will only work on some Apple Mobile devices and will NOT work on Android or Chrome devices.

To take notes with a mobile device, you would need to use an app that allows you to type your notes in a Word (.docx) document. We do not recommend students use mobile devices instead of a laptop computer. In instances where a tablet computer is used, a physical keyboard will be needed.
