Youth Ministry Internship

Plan youth events. Host camps and retreats. Run a children’s ministry. Disciple young people. And earn a degree while you’re at it.

The Youth Ministry Internship places college students at local churches across the United States, giving them an opportunity to serve alongside a youth pastor or children’s ministry pastor. They will gain hands-on ministry experience and in-depth training while serving in the local church, as well as receive further training after the placement on how to lead and direct a student ministry. YMI interns will receive a stipend from their church and receive discounted online schooling as they participate.

In addition to gaining practical experience, youth ministry interns get in-depth training before and after their service assignments. We’ll walk you through youth ministry best practices, event planning, curriculum, and discipleship prior to your church placement, and after your internship, you’ll return to Word of Life for further training on how to lead and direct a student ministry.

Placement & Training

All YMI interns are placed at a Word of Life partner church in the United States. We work with you to find a placement that best fits your area of interest (children’s ministry, youth ministry, etc.). Whether you want to go near or far, we have partners across the U.S. and will work to find the best fit for you.

After an application process, your two years as an YMI intern consists of a month of training on the local church and youth ministry under the direction of the Local Church Ministries Division.

After initial training, you’ll spend 2 years on the field in your internship. You will be discipled by a pastor or leader in the church. We have a Job Board where you will be able to see the available intern opportunities and post your resume for churches to see as well. Training is held annually from the middle of August to the middle of September. You will begin serving in your church in the middle of September. For more info, contact

You will work out an agreement with a church that includes a stipend and housing and other options. Once you are on the Job Board, you can begin contacting churches to find more about their intern positions and where you best fit. To get more information, please contact

All YMI interns are required to pursue a degree during their internship. We want to send you out prepared with both ministry experience and a college education! We have partnered with Liberty University and Clarks Summit University to offer you discounted tuition – up to 50% off! While we do require that you take online classes during your service assignment, the classes you take and the pace of study is completely up to you.
