The Bridge: Thanksgiving Break Announcement

New York Bible Institute Thanksgiving Break Information

Dear Students and Parents,
Throughout this academic year, we have stated that our desire at Word of Life Bible Institute is to be responsible and reasonable in our approach concerning the health and safety of all students. With this in mind, we are pleased to offer the following options to your student(s) for Thanksgiving Break. All students must choose one of the options and fill out the intent form. Please be sure to discuss the options with your student(s) and have them fill out the intent form by 10/26/2020.
Thanksgiving Break Dates: November 24 (beginning at 1 pm) November 30 (return by in-dorms)
All the options take into consideration the New York State Travel Advisory Guidelines. For details concerning the NYS Travel Advisory, please click here. We are doing our best to both follow the guidelines and provide great solutions.

Option 1
: Non-Travel Advisory State – Leave Campus and Return After Break
Option 1, which is for returning home to a non-travel advisory state for break and returning for classes after break, is for either: students who are from non-travel advisory states OR students who are from travel advisory states who plan to go somewhere on break within a non-travel advisory state.

    1. Basically, anyone can choose option 1 so long as their plans consist of them traveling to a non-travel advisory state.
    2. If you select option 1, you are expected to return to campus after break for in-person classes by the last night of break, November 30, by in-dorms. Remote learning is exclusively for students who are from travel advisory states and travel home for break.

Option 2
: Travel Advisory State – Remain on Campus
Option 2, which is for remaining on campus during Thanksgiving Break, is only available for students who are from travel advisory states. This is the alternative option for students who do not want to travel home and have to do remote learning because they are not allowed back to campus without quarantining.

    1. If you are from a non-travel advisory state and do not want to return home, we still do not want you to remain on campus. During a COVID-free year, the expectation would be that you would leave campus and find a ride with another student who lives near your home or go to a friend’s house over break. Since there are no travel restrictions for non-travel advisory states, we still expect you to leave campus for break.
    2. If you are from a non-travel advisory state and there are extenuating circumstances that make option 2 the best option for you, we will do our best to work with you. Please reach out to someone from Student Life if this is the case.

Option 3: Travel Advisory State – Remote Learning
Option 3, which is for returning home to a travel advisory state and then doing remote learning between Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks is only an option for students actually from travel advisory states.

    1. If you are NOT from a travel advisory state, you should not travel with anyone else to a travel advisory state for Thanksgiving Break.
    2. If you are NOT from a travel advisory state, it is expected that you will return to campus for classes between Thanksgiving Break and Christmas break. WOLBI is, as much as possible, an on-campus learning institution. We expect students from non-travel advisory states to return to campus after break, as would be the case during a normal, COVID-19-less world.

Florida Bible Institute Thanksgiving Break Information

Dear Students and Parents,
In response to the challenges presented by COVID-19, our desire at the Florida Campus of Word of Life Bible Institute is to act in a responsible and reasonable fashion, with the best interests of our students at heart. With this in mind, we are pleased to offer several options for Thanksgiving Break at the Florida Bible Institute
All options take into consideration our current Health and Safety Plan, which provides guidance regarding travel to different Florida counties and other states with significant rates of COVID-19 transmission (based on a 7-day average positive COVID test rate of 10% or higher).  A Travel Advisory List of these areas of concern is updated and made available to students weekly (see page 3 for the current version). Travel through areas which appear on the Travel Advisory List is not considered travel to that area if no stops longer than 12 hours were made. Please be sure to discuss the options below with your student(s) and have them fill out the intent form. It will be collected in class on 10/27/2020.
Thanksgiving Break Dates: November 24 (beginning at 1 pm) – November 30 (return by in-dorms)

Option 1: Non-Travel Advisory State – Leave Campus and Return After Break

  • Conditions: This option is only available for those students who are traveling to an area that is NOT on the Travel Advisory List, or who have written proof of having tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies.
  • Guidelines:
  • Students may bring others with them to their destination. However, they may NOT do so if they are traveling to an area on the Travel Advisory List.
  • Students must travel directly to their destination with as few stops as possible. The same applies to the return trip to campus.
  • Students must continue logging their temperature daily while away. They will be free to return to campus under the following conditions and will not need to quarantine upon arrival:
  • They are free of COVID-19 symptoms.
  • They have had no known contact with anyone who has shown symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Students who are unable to return because they do not meet the above conditions will need to complete the fall semester via remote learning (see Option 3 for further details.)
  • If your destination is added to the Travel Advisory List right before the Thanksgiving break, we will work with you to develop a plan for Options 2 or 3

Option 2: Travel Advisory State – Remain on Campus

  • Conditions: due to limited on-campus resources and supervision during the Thanksgiving break, this option is only available to students who CANNOT travel home or to the location where their family is gathering for Thanksgiving because it is located in an area that is on the Travel Advisory List and they do NOT wish to complete the fall semester remotely.
  • Guidelines:
  • Students will be provided room and board during the Thanksgiving Break and will continue to fulfill a service assignment, which may differ from their regular one.
  • Word of Life will do its best to provide a family-style Thanksgiving experience.
  • Students will NOT be permitted to have guests on campus during this time.
  • Students will be expected to abide by the WOLBI Health and Safety Policies and Standard of Conduct.
  • This option will NOT be made available during the Christmas break.

Option 3: Travel Advisory State – Remote Learning

  • Conditions: Because Word of Life Bible Institute is NOT accredited as an online institution, this option is only available as an exception to those who have NOT tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies and whose home or location where their family is gathering for Thanksgiving is in an area that is on the Travel Advisory List.
  • Guidelines:
  • Students choosing this option may not bring other students to their destination unless they have obtained permission to do so.
  • The following must be followed in order to remain enrolled in the Bible Institute program:
  • Students must log in and watch classes and chapels live and without distractions at their scheduled times. They will affirm this weekly using a “Remote Instruction Class Viewing Report”.
  • All assignments, quizzes, and exams must be completed as scheduled. Quizzes and exams will include an integrity question.
  • It is understood that there will not be any reimbursement of room and board in recognition of the fact that WOLBI will be providing a specialized remote instruction service which has been chosen by the student and which requires additional oversight by WOLBI staff.
