Brian Baker Speaking

The Bridge: April 28, 2023

A Note from Brian

For more than seventy years, Word of Life has placed an emphasis on missions. Our recent Missions Conference allowed us to share this focus with our students. Their response was incredible. God doesn’t call everyone to go, but we believe He does call all of us to be involved in reaching the world. This happens through prayer, giving, and going. The conference was also a great launching point for their own mission trips.

Currently, our students are wrapping up Open Air Evangelism in New York City (freshman class) and multiple Missions Reality trips around the world (sophomore class). They will be home in a few weeks and can tell you about it! We encourage you to ask them about what God did on their trip, the opportunities to share the gospel, and the life change they experienced by sharing it with others!

Camp Dates

As you may be aware, your students have a unique opportunity to be a part of our summer camps. In New York, we have a family camp called The Pines as well as three youth camps: The Ranch, The Ridge, and The Island. We also have a youth camp called The Coast in Florida.

If you have teenagers or young children at home and would like to plan a spiritually refreshing week for them, or if you would like to grow together as a family, you can register for one of our camps at the link below: https://camps.wol.org/

Summer Break Dates

As a reminder, below are the dates for summer break.

Departure: May 19 after the morning exam.

Return for students working at the Pines: June 10

Return for students working at a New York Youth Camp: June 13

Property Update:

If you’ve been to our property recently, you know we’ve put in a lot of work over the past few years to update our properties. Well, we still aren’t done!

Over the next few Bridge blogs, we will include updates that are taking place on our property. For this week, we are highlighting additions to The Pines property.

The Pines campground has always offered cabins, tent sites, and RV sites for families to enjoy. This year, however, guests can experience glamping for the first time ever! At The Pines, glamping (or glamorous camping) includes a canvas tent structure outfitted with a queen bed, a twin bunk bed, and other essential furniture to take the camping experience from living on the ground to something more profound. These glamping sites can be rented by a family of four starting this summer (2023)!

In addition to the glamping sites, we will also be building a new high elements course that will feature a climbing wall, zipline, and high ropes course. These new structures are being built with the sole purpose of introducing more families to the sovereign God who is in the business of changing more than just buildings. God has been and is building a community that shares His love and joy through the various fun activities and ministries at The Pines.
